Statement from Family Policy Alliance of Georgia on Bill to Ban Transgender Therapy

ATLANTA– Last week, Rep Ginny Ehrhart (R-Marietta) announced that she will introduce legislation in the Georgia legislature to prohibit medical professionals from performing gender transitions on children.

While gender dysphoria can manifest itself in children, most children eventually move past it and reaffirm their biological sex. Allowing a child to make life altering decisions for themselves or pushing them to undergo transgender procedures at an early age permanently removes any option for them to readjust to their birth sex later in life.

Statement from Cole Muzio, President and Executive Director of Family Policy Alliance of Georgia:

“We are greatly encouraged by Rep. Ginny Ehrhart’s commitment to protecting Georgia’s children from the growing trend of pushing minors toward experimental hormones and irreversible genital mutilation. There’s nothing more gut-wrenching than seeing a child – who typically cannot make any other medical decision for herself – sacrificed at the altar of a radical agenda and set on a path that leads to depression, countless complications, and all-too-often suicide. While we respect the legitimacy of the struggle that many Georgians, including children, endure, we cannot in good conscience allow our society to turn that struggle into a permanent mutilation that violates their natural development at such young ages.”
