You’ve been getting lots of emails and Action Alerts from Family Policy Alliance of North Dakota about our state and nation. It’s certainly appropriate, given that we need to act on these important issues.
I’m happy to report you’ve backed us all the way with phone calls and emails to your lawmakers. We also are grateful for your many prayers and financial gifts. But this week, I want to pause for just a moment in all this busyness to share a few personal thoughts.
As you may remember, our family moved to North Dakota in August, so that means we’ve been here for about six months. So, what are our thoughts and observations?
First, we’ve found that the wind always blows in North Dakota. It makes sense, given the terrain. That wind coupled with winter temperatures has the Jorritsmas shopping for warmer clothing.
Second, North Dakotans are very common sense, no-nonsense people. You focus on what matters, and you don’t bother with a lot of the “fluffery” that sometimes exists in other places. We greatly appreciate this.
Third, you drive the speed limit. After almost 11 years on the East Coast, I’ve had to relearn slowing down and enjoying the journey as much as the destination (not to mention leaving that horn alone). That’s honestly difficult for a Type A person such as myself, but I’m getting better… baby steps.
And, finally, North Dakotans are truly kind, and you care about people. We see that in many ways, from someone saying “excuse me” in the grocery store when they bump into your shopping cart, to people simply striking up friendly conversations, even though they’ve never met before.
All that to say, we feel at home. You’ve already made us “part of the family,” and we greatly appreciate that. You’ve made us feel loved, many of you have already become treasured friends, and you’ve helped us once again focus on what matters most – relationships.
So, thank you from our whole family. We are proud to call ourselves North Dakotans and look forward to building bonds with you for years to come.
We’d love for you to partner with us to make North Dakota a state where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive and life is cherished. It’s easy. Just find the “Donate” button at the top of this page. And thank you!
