You Are More Powerful than You Think

Working in politics is often a depressing “sport” and one could easily get disheartened. As we are seeing, however one person can, in fact, make a profound difference.

Consider Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH). This former assistant wrestling coach decided to pursue an opportunity to serve in politics. His talent and determination allowed him to rise through the ranks to become an influential member of the United States House of Representatives. Instead of “playing the game” or seeking power, he stood up to the powers that be, even within his own Party. He founded the Freedom Caucus which has been the single most effective check on the “political establishment” in Washington.

Now, Jim Jordan is the most important power broker in determining the direction of the Republican healthcare plan.

One person can make a difference.

Consider also Reps. Dave Brat (R-VA) and Warren Davidson (R-OH). These men chose to go up against political machines – first Brat ran against then-Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Virginia and then Davidson against the preferred candidate to replace John Boehner in Ohio. Brat and Davidson, with little to no political experience, took up a banner, stood strong, did what was right and emerged victorious even though few thought they would.

One person can make a difference.

Consider my friend Becky Gerritson, of the Wetumpka Tea Party, who stood up to the IRS, pointed directly at members of Congress, and said, “you have forgotten your place.”

One person can make a difference.

Consider also the committed GOP activist from Northwest Alabama who committed to knock on 20 doors a day for my friend, Sen. Larry Stutts. While this small sum did not seem like it would mean much, it made all the difference when he achieved a shocking 70 vote victory over a 32-year incumbent!

One person can make a difference.

In the coming days, I look forward to sharing with you about some leaders that are standing shoulder to shoulder with us under this principle. Also, as we look ahead to the 2018 elections, we are looking for men and women who will adhere to this principle, run for office, or commit to affecting change by doing their part – whatever the Lord may call them to do.

At Family Policy Alliance of Georgia, we believe that one person can make a difference and together, as the Body of Christ, we can make THE difference.
