Incredible Victory: Millions of Children Now Protected

Last night, an incredible thing happened. North Carolina became the twentieth state with a Help Not Harm law, even overriding their governor’s veto to do so. That means that across the nation, millions of children are now protected from transgender procedures.

And this is not a fringe issue or a partisan victory. 60% of the states with Help Not Harm laws passed them with support from both Republicans and Democrats, and 20% of Help Not Harm states overrode their governors’ vetoes to pass these laws.

YOU made this milestone possible. With each email you sent your lawmakers in our Action center, time you showed up at your Capitol with your state’s Family Policy Council, generously gave toward the cause, or prayed for these laws to pass, you were protecting children. Because of you, children in 20 states have the opportunity to grow up with their bodies free from the irreversible harm and heavy baggage of so-called ‘gender transition.’

Here at Family Policy Alliance, with your support, we first drafted model legislation on this issue in 2017. In 2021, Arkansas became the first state to pass a Help Not Harm-style law (made possible by the state’s Family Council, alongside Rep. Robin Lundstrum, an alumna of Family Policy Foundation’s Statesmen Academy). Then, this year, the movement took hold of the nation.

This win wouldn’t have been possible without a groundswell of support at the state level. These victories happened because of the tireless work of Family Policy Councils and lawmakers (many of them alumni of the Statesmen Academy) across those twenty states. The men and women who have courageously supported this legislation are heroes. They know – just as you do – that 50 years from now, our nation will look back and see transitioning children as one of the great medical scandals of our age. At Family Policy Alliance, we are honored to be among those speaking out against injustice, and we greatly commend those who have risked their careers and even their personal safety to do the same.

And ultimately, we praise God for his gracious work in making this milestone possible. A victory of this size is exceedingly rare in the political realm, and we know a result this big was only possible because of His work.

The 20 states with Help Not Harm-like laws are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

Where do we go from here? 20 states is a great accomplishment, but we’re just getting started. Our vision is that one day, every child in America will be protected and transitioning children will be unthinkable.

Whatever your role in this milestone, thank you. You are helping to spare children from unthinkable and lasting harm. And, if you want to help further our work to protect children nationwide, you can partner with us here.

Praising God for His victory,
