Recently, the Albuquerque City Council voted on an amendment to the budget that allocates $250,000 to Planned Parenthood. The amendment was sponsored by Tammy Fiebelkorn, city councilor for District 7, who states, “I’m proud to have sponsored this amendment to provide vital support for Planned Parenthood.”
The amendment was passed in a 6-3 vote, with two conservative council members voting for the amendment rather than supporting the conservative values they claim to protect. If left to stand, this appropriation of funds will go into effect on July 1.
There’s still hope.
City Councilor Renee Grout is sponsoring a resolution to reappropriate the funds that are designated for Planned Parenthood. Grout, and other conservative council members, are working to reallocate the $250,000 to support pregnancy education and care projects in the city.
It is possible!
NM FAM is proud to be working with Councilor Grout to see this resolution come to fruition. If we hope to change the culture of our state to one that cherishes life and sees families thrive, we cannot have taxpayers’ dollars specifically earmarked to fund operations like Planned Parenthood.
Unfortunately, many women facing unplanned pregnancy feel that abortion is their only option. They need to know there are other, better, more life-affirming options available to them.
Help us support Councilor Grout and this resolution to STOP the funds to Planned Parenthood. Email the Albuquerque city councilors and tell them to support the reappropriation of funds from Planned Parenthood to pregnancy education and care projects.
Help us change the culture of New Mexico!
