This coming Tuesday, June 7 is Primary Election Day here in New Jersey. Politics is a tough sport. Even when competitors play by the rules, as in football or mixed marital arts, undoubtedly some will get hurt and injured. Politics at times might lead to slander, false accusations, and betrayal. As Christians, we should reject lies, not disseminate them. Sadly, I am reminded of a scripture that can easily be applied to our modern political moment.
These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
Biblical principles apply in all areas of life – including politics and government. A person running to serve in elected office should possess a communication and leadership style that reflects your core Christian values. A true public servant is a person who demonstrates a respectful engagement on the issues, inspires hope, and presents themselves in a professional God-honoring manner.
We must also not overlook the electability of the person in a general election. If we are to have the ability to protect Life and guard against the continual erosion of parental and religious rights, we need to help elect people who can win in November. The threat between your values and the agenda of the radical Left in our country is much greater in the general election than in the primary.
I encourage you to view the New Jersey congressional endorsements from our national allies Family Research Council Action and the National Right to Life Victory Fund. These two prominent organizations have first-hand experience in fighting for Life, Religious Freedom, and the traditional Family in Congress.
Are you ready for this? Only one member of Congress nationwide was listed on their websites as endorsed by both organizations in the 2022 primary – New Jersey’s own Rep. Chris Smith (R – District 4, Ocean and Monmouth Counties).
That is why I never give up hope that New Jersey can come back from the abyss and once more be a social conservative state.
Protecting your family,
