Freedom isn’t free…

July 7

Dear Friends,

I’m so grateful to have celebrated yet another year of our great nation. Independence Day is always a great time of reflection as we consider all that has been sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today, all that has been gained in the years since our founding fathers signed the Declaration, and all that is at stake when people stop realizing that freedom isn’t free.

This week, I have the privilege of taking 10 teenagers to youth camp. It is not a task for the faint of heart. Not only have I had to learn to speak the Gen Z language in order to communicate, but I’ve also had to be strong and courageous in the face of giants. The giants of the literally “heads and shoulders taller than me” youth, the giants of their doubts and fears, the giants of insecurities, and so many more giants.

But as I face one giant (or many) at a time, I’m thankful. I’m thankful because we live in a country that still allows me to pack up a bunch of teenagers and get them away from it all for a week. We live in a country in which we are free to worship God freely and without fear of persecution. We live in a country where men and women have sacrificed so much to protect our rights to pursue life, liberty and happiness.

Our country has faced many giants since its birth. Giants that would try to tear down, destroy, and strip our freedoms. Some giants are in the form of enemies from without, and some take the form of enemies from within. No matter the face of the giant, the fight is worth it.

So whatever giant you may face today, remember you face it in freedom. Whatever giants our country faces, we face them in freedom. Whatever giants threaten the Land of Enchantment, we face them in freedom!

I will continue to be strong and courageous in the face of New Mexico giants because freedom isn’t free, but it’s worth it!

Will you stand with me?

Standing Firm,
