January 22 was National Sanctity of Human Life Day – a proclamation issued by President Trump, and which was actually started by President Reagan many years ago. The day has been set aside by presidents over the years to solemnly observe the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the US. Sadly, more than 59,000,000 abortions have taken place since that time. To put this in perspective, that would be the population sufficient to fill 77 North Dakotas!
Here in North Dakota, we often pride ourselves on our pro-life stance, protecting preborn children. In fact, the infamous pro-abortion organization NARAL – short for National Abortion Rights Action League – rates our state as having “severely restricted abortions”. Thank you NARAL. We will wear that badge proudly.
Most of our State Representatives and State Senators help us protect preborn life in our state, and that’s in large part how we received that coveted NARAL rating, but what do our Members of Congress do? Senator Hoeven and Representative Cramer have consistently voted in favor of life, but unfortunately not Senator Heitkamp. She has consistently voted for pro-abortion legislation and agreed with Planned Parenthood’s positions.
This worries and disappoints me more than you can imagine. To be blunt, her stance does not represent the majority of us who live in North Dakota. I would be thrilled if she rethought her position on this issue, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.
So, my question is this. Do you want to reelect a person to Congress that is supposed to represent our great state, but believes that preborn children are disposable? I encourage you to let your values and conscience provide the answer. Thousands of lives depend on it. Ultimately, you protect our children!
