BREAKING: Kentucky Governor Fails Female Athletes – Statement

Kentucky Governor Beshear vetoed the state’s bill to Save Girls’ Sports

The following is attributable to Meridian Baldacci, Spokesperson for Family Policy Alliance:

“Today, Kentucky Governor Beshear failed female athletes across the Bluegrass State. Just weeks after the NCAA forced a female swimmer to take second place to a male, Governor Beshear abandoned young Kentucky girls to the same fate in their own sports leagues.

This is a tragedy for Kentucky girls, and it is disappointing to see Governor Beshear refuse to stand up for girls in his state. Every time a male is awarded a limited girls’ roster spot, competition placement, scholarship, championship title or career opportunity, a female athlete has that same opportunity taken away from her – in a contest meant just for females.

The Kentucky General Assembly must override this misguided and concerning veto.”

If the Governor had made the right decision, Kentucky would have been the 15th state to Save Girls’ Sports.

Already this year, the Utah legislature voted to override its Governor’s veto of a similar law, and the Indiana legislature plans to hold its own override vote later this spring. To date, fourteen states have laws that #SaveGirlsSports.
