Applauds Defeat of Radical Abortion Bill, HB 51

SANTA FE – Today, the New Mexico Senate defeated the controversial pro-abortion bill, House Bill 51, on an 18-24 vote. The opposition to House Bill 51 was bipartisan, as six Democrats joined the 16 Republican Senators in casting their votes against the bill.

“We applaud the thousands of New Mexicans and the bipartisan majority of New Mexico Senators who worked to defeat this radical abortion bill,” said Stephanie Curry, Public Policy Manager of Family Policy Alliance of New Mexico. “House Bill 51 exposed the dark reality of abortion in New Mexico, including elective abortion up-to-birth. New Mexicans across the state responded by contacting their legislators through phone calls, emails, and office visits, and today, these 24 Senators responded to the wishes of their constituents. The fight is not over, however, and we encourage the pro-life community to continue to join with us as we fight for the unborn children of New Mexico.”
