Here’s the Way Forward After Roe Is Overturned

Family Policy Alliance launches Phase 2 of After Roe campaign ahead of Roe v. Wade anniversary

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Family Policy Alliance today launched Phase 2 of its After Roe campaign, outlining the “way forward” for the pro-life movement after Roe v. Wade is overturned. With just two days until the 49th Anniversary of Roe, and one day until the annual March for Life – the largest peaceful human rights gathering in the world – pro-life advocates need to know how they can protect life in their own states.

Meridian Baldacci, spokesperson for Family Policy Alliance, offered the following statement:

“Our ultimate goal after Roe is overturned – whether this June or soon thereafter – is a nation where life is not only protected but cherished. With Phase 2 of our After Roe campaign, we’ve laid out the way forward for states to fully protect the dignity of life inside the womb, just as we do for those outside the womb.

“Our team did the research, categorizing each state as “Strongly Pro-Life,” “Somewhat Pro-Life,” or “Pro-Abortion” – because after Roe, not every state will ban abortion right away. In fact, most will have a long way to go to protect life. And across the states, there will be a greater need than ever to promote a culture of life, protect families and foster communities where life is truly cherished.”

If Roe were overturned tomorrow, 18 states would have laws that mostly or completely ban abortion, 11 states would have some restrictions on abortion, and 21 states and the District of Columbia would have either an established “right to choose” or laws that protect that “right.”

Family Policy Alliance launched its After Roe campaign with Phase 1 in December 2021. The campaign aims to support pro-life citizens to stand for life on the frontlines of their own states. As the latest development in the campaign, the “Way Forward” casts a vision for what states can do to protect life, even before Roe is overturned.

“When we speak of a world after Roe, we are, of course, talking about ending abortion,” said Craig DeRoche, President and CEO of Family Policy Alliance. “But we are also talking about much more than ending abortion: We are talking about creating a nation that truly cherishes life. That means protecting unborn children from abortion, supporting their families, and fostering communities that honor life at every stage.”

Importantly, the page also features an interactive map where users can see at a glance how their state’s abortion laws stack up against other states, then click on their own state to learn more about abortion laws in their area as well as the “Way Forward” to protect life in their community.

Background

  • In December, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, a case directly challenging Roe v. Wade
  • If Roe is overturned, experts expect the issue of abortion to return to the states – a possibility already sparking heated debate over the fate of the unborn in legislatures across the nation
  • Already, media and experts are amplifying the issue and asking the question, “What would happen if Roe were overturned?”
