BREAKING: Missouri Protects Women and Children from Transgender Agenda
SB 49/SB 39 protects minors from dangerous transgender interventions

Today, Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed SB 49 and SB 39, which together protect Missouri children from transgender interventions and reserve girls’ sports for female athletes. This makes Missouri the eighteenth state with a law protecting vulnerable children from transgender procedures and the twenty-second state with a Save Girls’ Sports law.

Meridian Baldacci, Spokesperson at Family Policy Alliance, responded:

Today, Missouri has set itself apart as a state that’s willing to protect women and children.

“The radical transgender ideology says that children who struggle to embrace their biological sex should be put on a one-way road to sterilizing hormones and irreversible surgeries. The same ideology says that a male who identifies as female should be allowed to compete in girls’ sports, even if that means forcing female athletes to lose out in their own sports.

But today, Missouri has made it clear that women and children are a priority. Children deserve the chance to receive love and meaningful help, not the harm of hormones and surgeries. Women and girls deserve the opportunity to compete on a level playing field, to know that they won’t be forced to take second place to a biologically advantaged male athlete.

“We applaud Missouri lawmakers for their courageous stand.”

Family Policy Alliance (FPA) began work on protecting minors from transgender interventions in 2017, when the group first drafted an early version of what is now the Help Not Harm Act. In 2021, FPA launched its Help Not Harm campaign following the passage of Arkansas’s SAFE Act (the first successful bill in the nation to offer these protections).

To date, 18 states have Help Not Harm-like laws (Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah). In 2023, 26 states have introduced Help Not Harm-like bills.

22 states protect female athletes with Save Girls’ Sports laws, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Many of these states, including Missouri, extend protections for female athletes who have achieved even higher levels of competition at the collegiate level.
