Ballot Victories for Families in a Tough Election

November 6, 2026

Dear Friends,

Midterm election results told one story. Key ballot initiatives told another.

Tuesday’s elections brought major setbacks for conservatives. Yet amid the disappointing headlines, voters across the country delivered important victories for children and families.

So how did these victories happen in such a challenging election?

Through the hard work of state Family Policy Councils and national allies who have been leading on these issues long before Election Day.

Take Nebraska, for example.

Nebraska Family Alliance led efforts to protect girls’ sports and defeat the expansion of online sports gambling. Despite national gambling corporations spending more than $20 million, voters delivered strong victories on both measures.

And Nebraska wasn’t alone. Voters in Arizona, Colorado and Washington also backed protections for girls’ sports, while Colorado supported a measure to protect minors from gender-transition surgeries. In Alabama, voters approved a constitutional amendment protecting student-led prayer in public schools.

These victories are encouraging, but Tuesday’s results also exposed a serious challenge: Too many Christians are still sitting on the sidelines. In my latest American Thinker op-ed, I explain why that must change.

That challenge was front and center yesterday as Family Policy Alliance hosted dozens of key leaders from social conservative organizations on Capitol Hill for our SoCon Connection gathering to discuss the midterm results and plan for the road ahead.

One important takeaway from yesterday’s gathering was that winning at the ballot box doesn’t mean our work is done. Public opinion can shift, and we must continue making the case for these protections in the years ahead.

That’s why Family Policy Alliance won’t stop mobilizing Christian voters and equipping elected leaders through our Statesmen Academy and School Board Academy to champion policies that strengthen families.
