Dear Friend,
One year ago today, Charlie Kirk was tragically assassinated.
Today, we remember Charlie, pray for his wife, Erika, and their children, and reflect on a life marked by bold faith and courageous action.
Charlie was never content to sit on the sidelines. He proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ, stood for truth even when it came at a cost, and challenged millions of Americans, especially young people, to engage in the future of their country.
Last spring, just months before his death, my wife, Stacey, and I had the opportunity to spend time with Charlie. Our conversation touched on the work ahead and a conviction we shared: People who love God and love America need to show up.
Charlie understood that holding strong convictions isn’t enough. We have to live them.
That reminds me of another Christian leader I had the privilege of serving alongside, Chuck Colson. The night before his final public speech in 2012, Chuck challenged Christians to understand that a biblical worldview is something “we have to live … express … and contend for.”
Those words have stayed with me. That same challenge was reflected in my conversation with Charlie last spring.
Today, through Family Policy Alliance and our network of 39 state Family Policy Councils, helping Christians put their convictions into action is what we do every day.
We equip believers to engage. We defend families and our God-given freedoms. And we mobilize Christians to make their voices heard, including at the ballot box.
The future is shaped by those who show up.
Charlie showed up. He gave his time and talents to the causes he believed in, spoke truth when it was unpopular, and ultimately paid an unimaginable price.
One year later, his absence is deeply felt. But the call to live with that same courage and conviction remains before each of us.
As America celebrates its 250th year, may we not retreat from the responsibilities and freedoms God has entrusted to us. May we live our faith boldly, participate faithfully, and have the courage to stand for what is true.
And I pray that each of us will keep showing up.
