It’s no secret that the progressive Left has an obsession with “gender identity” – the idea that you can “choose” your “gender” identity (distinct from your biological sex). That focus is most apparent in the Equality Act, one of the top priorities for national Democratic leadership. As you may know, the Equality Act would push a radical agenda across America while leaving women and children behind. You can learn about it here.

But, the Equality Act isn’t the only place this agenda is showing up.

Our team did a search through current Congressional bills and found nearly 100 bills containing the term “gender identity.” What does this mean? Democratic leadership realizes that the full Equality Act doesn’t have enough support. That is in heartfelt thanks to many of you who have helped stop that dangerous bill with your prayers, taking action, and financial support.

But their backup plan is to force through the tenets of the Equality Act piece-by-piece. In many ways, this is even more dangerous because there are so many bills to keep track of that touch nearly every area of law.

What kinds of bills did we find? Here are 10 arenas that could be affected by current bills that contain the term “gender identity”:

  1. Religious Freedom
  2. Election Law
  3. School Policies
  4. “Consensual Sex Work”
  5. Pregnancy and Birth
  6. Jury Selection
  7. Business Opportunities
  8. Foreign Policy Focus
  9. Healthcare
  10. Daily American Life (The Equality Act)

My point here is not to comment on the merits of some of these individual bills. Instead, I simply want to raise a question: why does “gender identity” appear in so many very diverse bills?

There may be a number of reasons, including pressure from corporations, political supporters, and political superiors. But there’s one reason we can’t ignore. There are people behind these bills, whether activists or elected officials or both, who genuinely believe in gender ideology, and they are trying to play the long game to victory.

This tactic isn’t unique to those with whom we disagree. It’s an approach the pro-life movement has used to some degree, as well. If federal money is at stake, we’ve kept it from flowing toward abortion – even in some bills that may not immediately seem to relate to abortion. If a safety regulation could protect expectant mothers, we’ve likely pursued it.

Over time, this long-term strategy has altered both the legal and cultural spheres. Younger generations are more pro-life, and countless lives have been saved. All through a steady stream of small changes.

Those who favor the “gender identity” agenda are doing something similar. To help give some perspective, here are the three ways these bills use the term “gender identity.”

The Overtly Dangerous Bills: In some cases, like the Equality Act or the Equal Rights Act, the bill explicitly advocates for a progressive agenda on sex and gender – an agenda that actively harms many, especially women and children.

The Legal Status Change: In some cases, “gender identity” was added as a “protected class” in another area of law. This means, for example, that if a man identifies as a woman, he would receive the same sort of special legal protections that someone might receive on the basis of race or religion. Not only do these bills pave the way for dangerous laws like the Equality Act, but they also create a certain level of cultural acceptance for that belief.

Redefining Sex: Similarly, other bills included “gender” in the definition of “sex” (or other similar provisions). Of course, the way I feel about my body (gender identity) may be a very different thing from biological reality.  These are ideas we should not conflate in public policy. Yet again, it’s a subtle language change intended to change legal precedent and cultural attitudes.

The progressive Left is on a dedicated mission to change hearts and change the law. And, importantly – some of them really believe it, which means they’ll stop at nothing to win.

Their goal? Promote an agenda that leaves children sterile, lets males win female sports, and cancels religious freedom and parental rights.

We cannot, we must not, let this agenda win.

So, what can you do?

This morning, thousands of you tuned in to Facebook and YouTube for the #EqualityActExposed rally. Since the event first aired live, it’s garnered more than 32,000 impressions – and counting.

If you joined us live or afterward, thank you for joining to speak out to Congress. Today we made a clear statement that Americans oppose the dangerous Equality Act for a myriad of reasons.

If you haven’t watched the video yet, we encourage you to check it out here. And, don’t forget to share with friends!

We were honored to be joined by 12 other leading national and state organizations, as well as U.S. Senator Mike Lee (UT), Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), and Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08).

Throughout the rally, speakers shared many reasons they opposed the Equality Act – ranging from its harm to children, to its destruction of girls’ sports, to the implications for medical professionals. We even had the privilege of being joined by Natasha Chart of the Women’s Liberation Front – a self-styled radical feminist group that opposes the Equality Act because, in their words, it would “erase” women!

Here were some of our favorite moments:

Craig DeRoche, President & CEO for Family Policy Alliance, explained why a diverse collection of groups spanning the ideological spectrum came together in a united front to oppose the so-called Equality Act:

“The sponsors have to call the bill the Equality Act in order to hide what’s really lurking in it—a broken proposal that sets us back decades when it comes to America’s long and hard-fought march toward equal justice for all. We may not agree on all of the issues, but one thing we do agree on: the Equality Act is a deeply broken proposal that amounts to a massive federal government power grab into the most intimate parts of American life and family, intentionally silencing all of us who disagree along the way. There is no other option. Congress must reject it.”

When we experienced technical difficulties at the start of the stream, Joseph Backholm of Family Research Council stepped up to the plate and opened the rally with a great overview of the Equality Act’s many harms. Thank you, Joseph!

Senator Mike Lee (Utah), who has authored a great bill to protect women’s sports (S. 251), spoke about why we must defend girls’ and women’s sports:

“Not only are these girls denied the ability to be able to stand on the stage and be able to compete and get their awards, they are also being denied scholarship potentials. And, if this is allowed to continue across the country, or even as we look at the upcoming Olympics, we are in big trouble as far as all the gains we have made in women’s sports will be wiped away. We’ve got to stand up and stop this right now.”

Dr. Charmaine Yoest, Vice President of the Institute for Family, Community, and Opportunity, The Heritage Foundation

“We’ve spent years fighting to defend the unique differences between men and women and now not only are those differences being erased biologically, they will be eliminated legally. We must cry out ‘Nonsense. Nonsense!’”

Dr. Sharen Ford, Director for Foster Care and Adoption, Focus on the Family shared an inspiring message about the importance of faith-based adoption and foster care – and how the Equality Act would hurt that.

Due to technical challenges, we were unable to stream these messages, but we’re thrilled we can share them with you now:

Many of the organizations participating in the rally, including Family Policy Alliance, asked constituents and viewers to send a message to their U.S. Representative to “Vote NO” on the Equality Act. Together, these organizations are generating tens of thousands of messages into congressional offices!

Here’s a full list of participating organizations, including links they provided to viewers during the rally.

All participating organizations will continue their work to stop the Equality Act.

What comes next? We expect that the Equality Act vote will take place this afternoon (Thursday), and we will be sure to update you of the outcome. If you haven’t already, please send a message to your member of Congress in our Action Alert now. It only takes a minute!

Thank you all again for showing up in force today. This is how we make a difference.

Don’t forget to contact your member of Congress and share the rally recording with friends!

Together in the fight,
