Luke 2:10 “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.”
At some point this Christmas season, you will belt out “Joy to the World” with gusto. If you are like me, you will do so quite off-key but will take solace in the Lord’s promise that the singing of His people is truly a “joyful noise” (I choose to believe the heart matters more than the vocal cords).
So, if we sing that song at Christmas time, why do we often sound like fuddy-duddys when talking about cultural issues?
As Christians who strive for Gospel-living, we have struggled in our reaction to the evils in our culture, and, at times we have sounded less like the angels proclaiming joy and more like the substitute teacher handing out detentions for every infraction.
Now, let me be clear. I’m not advocating that we cease articulating what is evil, nor am I saying that we abandon a call to morality. However, ask yourself this: do you spend more time talking about the evils of “gay marriage” or the rapturous joy of God’s design for the family? Do you lament transgenderism more than you celebrate God’s purpose in gender? Is the manner we discuss our family values attractive to others or are we simply naysayers on lifestyles we disapprove of?
Christ came to bring joy to the world. The Gospel is the “Good News,” and, while that news is pertinent to salvation, The Word also points to a better, more fulfilling, prosperous, joyous, blessed way of living HERE and NOW!
So, contrary to how the Left would portray us, our goals aren’t to keep people from who they love, force someone into gender confines, or impose our values on the population. Our goals are to point people to the unparalleled gift of God’s design for the family, the joy that comes from knowing you were intentionally designed by a Creator, and the radically positive effect that biblical living can have on a society.
This Christmas and throughout 2018, I resolve to constantly look in the mirror (not a pleasant experience) and challenge myself as to whether I am sounding like a morally self-righteous fuddy-duddy and speaking as though I want to keep people from pleasure. Or, am I pointing people to something better, higher, and more joyful?
Yes, Georgia is Ground Zero: Have any doubt that the Left is going “all-in” on Georgia? The Sixth Senate District seat has now officially flipped from a conservative to a radical liberal who ran to the left of her Democrat opponent on LGBT issues. Just this year, we have experienced teachers telling students they cannot exercise their First Amendment rights, school boards telling boys they can use the girl’s restroom, and coaches being told they cannot pray with their team. Mega money is flowing into Georgia statewide races for next year, and the Left will try to win numerous congressional seats here. We are here for such a time as this.
Something to Pray For: We are currently finalizing our legislative agenda for 2018. Please pray for us to finalize wise strategies and find the right sponsors who will help us make real headway. If you are passionate about seeing God-honoring legislation pass, please support our efforts.
