Imagine this scenario: At home, your daughter lives as the girl God made her to be. At school, she claims to be a boy, and her teachers and classmates affirm this.  The shocking twist? You, the parent, are left in the dark about her life at school.

Sage’s parents experienced this firsthand when the school their daughter attended kept Sage’s decision to identify as a boy hidden, even after she was sexually assaulted in the boy’s bathroom. And, that was only the beginning of a harrowing tale – one that you can hear today at 1 pm ET.

After racing to save Sage from a dangerous path of transgender interventions (and much more), Sage’s parents began sharing her testimony, which eventually inspired the introduction of “Sage’s Law” in the state of Virginia. The bill would require teachers and school officials to inform at least one parent of a child’s gender confusion and to discuss counseling options for the child.

Sage’s story is not easy to hear, but it reminds us of the serious threat gender ideology poses to our kids – and the importance of protecting parental rights. Josh Hetzler of The Family Foundation (our state ally in Virginia) shares Sage’s story in today’s live video, and how he and his team are fighting to protect kids like Sage. “Sometimes I would, like, cry for hours on end and I just wouldn’t feel anything other than empty,” said Chloe Cole as she recalls how she felt after years on cross-sex hormones.

By the time she was 12 years old, Chloe Cole felt she should have been a boy – and she had heard that the only solution was to pursue irreversible bodily changes to make her look more like a boy, too. Chloe began taking male hormones and by age 15 underwent a double mastectomy.

Now 18 years old, Chloe has “detransitioned” (returned to living as a girl) and has been bravely sharing her story nationwide to warn others of the harsh reality of “transitioning” as a minor. Her story gives a shocking insight into the dangers of the transgender interventions for minors who struggle to embrace their God-given sex. Stories like Chloe’s are why we say minors need #HelpNotHarm.

She recounted her transition experience at the Social Conservative Conference, where we discussed her story and the need for Family Policy Alliance’s work to protect our children.

Here at Family Policy Alliance, we’ve been working on this issue since 2017, when we drafted the first version of a bill to protect minors from transgender interventions. We call them “Help Not Harm” bills because we believe that hurting children deserve a chance at real help, not the harm of hormones and surgeries. Now, just this year alone, at least 21 states around the country have introduced Help Not Harm-style legislation to protect children. The movement is growing!

Two years ago, we witnessed an incredible moment: Arkansas became the first state to legally protect children from transgender interventions. It was the first Help Not Harm law, as we like to call them. We believe that hurting children deserve real help, not the irreversible harm of hormones and surgeries.

And last year, momentum built around this issue.

But the growth we have seen this year has been nothing short of explosive.

Just this month alone—Mississippi, Tennessee, Iowa, and Kentucky joined the list of states protecting minors. And, in Kentucky’s case, the legislature overrode their governor’s veto in order to make the protections law. Talk about commitment to protecting kids! (Kentucky’s not alone in this: the Arkansas legislature did the same in 2021.)

And in total, the numbers are incredible. Six states have laws protecting minors from both cross-sex hormones and mutilating surgeries (Arkansas, South Dakota, Mississippi, Tennessee, Iowa, and Kentucky). Two states have modified versions of the law in place (Arizona and Utah). Seven state legislatures are actively considering legislation to protect minors (Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, New Hampshire, and South Carolina). And in Indiana and Montana, bills sit on the governors’ desks awaiting their action.

Why all this action? Americans are waking up. They’ve heard the tragic stories of courageous detransitioners like Chloe Cole, who had a double mastectomy at age 15. They’ve learned about the alarming rise in teen girls identifying as male, and heard about the devastating harms of transition – harms that include sterilization, loss of healthy organs, and so much more.

Across the country, we’re saying together: enough is enough. No child should be told they are in the wrong body, sterilized, and left with the deep pain of regret.

Finally, it holds doctors accountable by enabling medical malpractice suits by victims and authorizing the Texas Attorney General to enforce compliance with the law.

As a young child and trauma survivor, Erin Brewer hated that she was a girl. Life would be easier, she thought, if she were only a boy. So, she began walking down the path of transgenderism. But that wasn’t the end of her story.

What started in Arkansas in 2021 has made its way to South Dakota. It’s a bill that protects vulnerable children from transgender interventions, including both dangerous sex-change surgeries and experimental hormones. Its name: Help Not Harm, because hurting children deserve real help – not irreversible harm.

Yesterday, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem signed her state’s Help Not Harm Act, making South Dakota the second state in the nation with a law of this kind. The bill holds healthcare professionals accountable by providing child victims an opportunity to sue for damages.

Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke out about protecting young people who are struggling to embrace their God-given sex. He said: “The way to deal with that is to provide whatever counseling is needed – not to hack off their body parts… That is mutilation, and it is wrong.” Already under DeSantis, Florida’s medical board has updated its standards of care to protect children from these interventions.

Just hours later, former President Donald Trump chimed in with a list of executive actions he would take to protect children from the same dangerous procedures.

And last night President Biden got in on the action during his State of the Union address – albeit from the opposite perspective – when he called on Congress to pass the dangerous Equality Act for the sake of “LGBTQ Americans, especially transgender young people.”

What’s going on?

Americans are waking up en masse to the reality that the Left is teaching children – some of them extremely young – to consider “transitioning” to living as the opposite sex. Once this idea has been firmly planted in their minds, children are experimentally pushed onto a series of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and eventually irreversible surgeries. The long-term result? A lifetime of heartache and physical hardship.

This politicized protocol is nothing short of a medical scandal. When a child is deeply struggling to embrace their God-given body, they need meaningful help and support – not the harm of experimental drugs and surgeries.

Here at Family Policy Alliance, we’ve long been working to protect children from these dangerous interventions, using legislation we call Help Not Harm.

My prediction? 2023 is the year of Help Not Harm.

It’s been a long time coming. We first started working on this legislation back in 2017. In 2021, Arkansas became the first state to adopt a version of it as law. That effort was led by an alumna of Family Policy Foundation’s Statesmen Academy, and heavily supported by our state ally, Arkansas Family Council.

Flash forward to today and lawmakers in at least ten states have introduced Help Not Harm bills – and we expect more to follow.
