Celebrating 50 Years of the Hyde Amendment

October 1, 2026

50 YEARS OF HYDE: Protecting Life. Saving Millions.

This week marked 50 years since Congress first adopted the Hyde Amendment, one of the most consequential pro-life protections in our nation’s history.

Yesterday, I joined pro-life leaders and lawmakers outside the U.S. Capitol to celebrate this milestone and reaffirm a simple truth: every human life has value, born or unborn.

For five decades, the Hyde Amendment has protected Americans from being forced to use their federal tax dollars to fund abortion. In that time, it is estimated to have saved more than 2.6 million lives.

That is 2.6 million sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends who were given the chance to live.

Scripture reminds us where the value of every human life begins:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” — Psalm 139:13

Earlier this year, America celebrated 250 years since our founding and the enduring truth proclaimed in our Declaration of Independence: that our Creator has endowed us with an unalienable right to life.

Fifty years of Hyde is worth celebrating. But the work of protecting life is far from finished.

Family Policy Alliance and our allies across the country will keep standing for a nation where every life is valued and protected.

Thank you for joining us in the fight for life,
