Family Policy Alliance Condemns FDA Approval of New Generic Abortion Drug, Urges Trump Administration to Reverse Decision
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new generic version of the abortion drug mifepristone earlier this week, despite strong evidence of its risks to women and clear opposition from states that have passed pro-life protections.
Family Policy Alliance CEO Craig DeRoche issued the following statement:
“This decision by the FDA is an aggressive attempt to compromise the health and safety of women.
“By approving yet another abortion drug, the federal government is not only endangering women and children but also trampling the rights of states that have passed laws to protect life, and states that honor their own ‘14th Amendment.’ The Biden-era FDA weakened safety standards and ignored alarming data; now, this approval doubles down on those failures.
“States must retain the right to protect their citizens, and this kind of federal overreach undermines every citizen’s U.S. Constitutional rights. We call for the FDA to pursue every avenue in reversing this dangerous decision.”
The FDA approval comes as chemical abortions now make up more than six in 10 abortions nationwide. These drugs place women at severe risk of hemorrhage, infection, and other life-threatening complications, and are increasingly used by abusers to harm women without their knowledge or consent.
Family Policy Alliance joins millions of pro-life Americans in calling on the Trump Administration to restore safety standards, end mail-order abortion-pill distribution, and uphold the right and responsibility of states to enforce their pro-life laws.
