My jaw dropped when I read that 27 percent of California adolescents report that others view them as gender nonconforming, according to a study by the UCLA School of Law.

While I doubt that the number is really that high (I have significant problems with the study’s methodology), it does shed light on a growing problem.

More and more of our youths are identifying as transgender or another alternative gender identity. Naturally, this trend creates complications for many areas of life, including at home and at school, and parents and grandparents are left wondering how to respond.

To help parents navigate this topic with their children, Family Policy Alliance has joined with other national organizations to create The Parent Resource Guide: Understanding the Transgender Issue. Endorsed by medical professionals, policy experts, and faith leaders, this resource is designed to:

The transgender trend harms individuals and threatens parental rights, religious freedom, and liberty of conscience. Even here in Idaho, biological boys can play in girls’ high school sports, public libraries encourage transgender lifestyles, and children receive dangerous hormone therapies and endure irreversible gender reassignment surgeries.

Knowing this, we’re excited to help parents stand for truth in love, equipping them with the tools to protect their children and influence their communities for the better.

We pray this free resource will be helpful for you and your family. Please download it today, and feel free to forward this email to others!

I received an email recently from a mother who was understandably upset about the book her 9-year-old daughter had checked out of their public school library. The book seemed innocent enough, but after perusing it a bit, it was apparent that it served up the politically correct LGBTQ+ agenda to elementary school children. To quote one example in the book, a character states:

“I grew up in another time. A time when people were not tolerant of others. My parents were devoutly religious, and in my youth, I adopted many of their more unseemly attitudes toward certain groups…That being gay was sinful. That it was wrong.”

This is just one instance of books in our local school libraries that have this agenda. So, how do you as a parent deal with this? How do you talk to your child about these issues? Like a sex education talk with your child, kids will hear about this subject from someone. We want to ensure they hear about it from you first!

One way we at Family Policy Alliance of North Dakota® are trying to help is through a new publication we call A Parent Resource Guide. This particular guide will help you respond to the transgender issue by providing in depth information on the dangerous nature of the agenda, what your parental and family rights are, and how you can protect your child in public schools. Family Policy Alliance partnered with a unique group of organizations from very diverse political views, but who shared one common concern – the negative consequences of treating bodily sex as irrelevant.

A Parent Resource Guide: Responding to the Transgender Issue will:

We are very excited to provide this resource to you, our ministry partners. However, we can only stem the LGBTQ+ tide with your help. Your tax-deductible gift will help underwrite the work Family Policy Alliance of North Dakota does to assist you in protecting our children and to provide key information to parents on how to address issues such as this. Thank you for your ongoing support and thank you for your commitment to your child’s education and well-being. How the next generation views the LGBTQ+ issue depends on us. Let’s use every resource we have as parents to present this issue from a biblical basis and a perspective consistent with our beliefs and values!

Meet Chelsea. Chelsea is the mother of a kindergartner in California. She was shocked when her child’s kindergarten class was taught about transgenderism through books, as well as a student being “revealed as the opposite sex.” Parents were never even notified that this topic would be introduced in their child’s kindergarten class, much less given the choice to opt out of the presentations. Another parent at the same school shared the story of her daughter’s reaction: “My daughter came home crying and shaking so afraid she could turn into a boy.”

Meet Annette. Annette is the mother of a middle-school girl in New Jersey. She recently learned that her daughter would be forced to share restrooms and locker rooms with any boy who identifies as a girl. Her daughter was obviously distraught by this and Annette was told by the principal that the bathroom policy was permissible under New Jersey law.

Meet Emily. Emily is a mother of seven from Minnesota. She purposely sent her children to a classical charter school, known for its values and rigorous academic program, to avoid many of the policies and challenges parents are now facing in public schools. Eventually, however, some parents who believed their child to be transgender moved into the school. With the help of a transgender-activist organization, these parents then pressured the school to adapt “transgender policies.” The school subsequently brought in speakers to advance the transgender agenda with the children.

These are true stories from real parents. And sadly, these stories are no longer “fringe cases.” They are now a growing trend, and in some states, they are becoming the norm. Parents of children in both public and private schools are facing difficult situations and policies involving the transgender trend. Even parents who homeschool are finding that their children are being exposed to the issue in unexpected ways (e.g. “Drag Queen Story Hour” at public libraries).

Together with our national allies across the country, we are hearing from more and more parents who want to know how they can respond and what they can do. In response, we teamed up with an unlikely coalition of organizations that includes the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF)—a self-described radical feminist group—to provide a “Parent Resource Guide” on the transgender issue.

Why would we partner with a radical feminist organization? Because protecting children is not a partisan issue.

This Guide was designed by both liberals and conservatives; Christians and non-Christians; medical, legal and policy experts; and others. In other words, this Guide can be used by any parent who is concerned about how the transgender trend will impact their child.

The Guide will help parents:

The “Parent Resource Guide” is our FREE GIFT to you today.

With powerful lobbying groups, teachers’ unions, school boards, and school administrators pushing policies that mandate the inclusion of transgender ideology in curriculum, athletics, grammar, and even basic bathroom and locker room privacy, parents need somewhere to turn. I graduated high school in the early 2000’s, and I’d like to believe that wasn’t that long ago. Back in those days, changing in front of your classmates in the locker room was simply an uncomfortable experience, and if a boy were caught in the girls’ facilities, he would most certainly face detention or worse.

That’s not the case for students now—and it really hasn’t been since around 2016. Shortly before then-President Obama left office, his administration released what’s known as the “transgender mandate” on public schools. This mandate forced public schools to adopt transgender policies—such as freely permitting men in girls’ locker rooms, sports teams, and more—or else risk losing their federal funding.

Thankfully, President Trump did away with this mandate right away, restoring common sense for schools. But the damage was already done.

Liberal school districts used the Obama policy as “cover” to pass transgender policies they wanted to pass anyway. Other school districts were confused or mistaken about the law and believed they had no choice but to implement transgender policies—even after President Trump eliminated the mandate.

And, what’s worse, because school districts rightly feared the reactions of parents, many school boards would pass these policies quietly. Parents wouldn’t find out about the changes until after they had already been made and were given no opportunity to be heard.

In the wake of this political chaos, parents have been knocked on their heels when their kindergartners have come home from school wondering “how little girls become little boys.” Young female track athletes, as I was, are forced to change in front of and compete against males. Children are scolded for using the correct pronouns when referring to classmates—forced to undergo “re-education” so that they feel comfortable referring to a “him” as a “her.”

Parents are rightly wondering how to respond and what their rights are.

In fact, Family Policy Alliance receives so many calls from parents about this issue that we partnered with an unlikely coalition to provide a resource for parents. We joined with a self-described radical feminist group Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), our friends at D.C.-based The Heritage Foundation, our allied state organization Minnesota Family Council, and two parent groups who have children or loved ones struggling with gender confusion, to release the first-ever Gender Resource Guide for parents on how to navigate the transgender issue with their children.

We are proud to partner with this unique coalition to produce a valuable resource for parents. The Guide is endorsed by medical professionals—including those who are experts in gender dysphoria, individuals who have lived as the opposite sex and “de-transitioned,” faith leaders, national policy experts, and more.

The Gender Resource Guide will help parents understand the transgender trend and its consequences, understand the implications of transgender activism in schools, communicate with school leaders, advocate for common sense policies and act with compassion toward everyone involved in the conversation.

We’d like to invite you to download your FREE copy of the Guide today! And, please share the link with your friends so that they can download it too.

We believe “politics” need not be a dirty word, but it certainly is when a political agenda takes precedence over children and their families. Our calling is to equip parents to understand the issue, help them stand firm in biblical truth, and to help them take action.

We pray you find this new Guide valuable as you navigate the transgender trend with your children and their school!

For families,

Autumn Leva,
Vice President of Strategy
