Family Policy Alliance Responds to Midterm Election Results

Though results continue to come in and the balance of power in Congress remains unknown, it now appears likely that control of the U.S. House will likely flip to Republicans. Meanwhile, abortion-related ballot measures were a loss for the pro-life side in all five states (California, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana and Vermont) in an election where Planned Parenthood invested a record-breaking $50 million and Democratic consultants advised their candidates to run on the abortion issue.

Statement from Craig DeRoche, CEO and President of Family Policy Alliance:

“Congress is poised to become a little friendlier for families. For the last two years, Nancy Pelosi’s House has sought to out-radicalize itself. Whether it was pushing to force all Americans to comply with radical gender ideology, or proposing legal abortion on-demand up to the moment of birth, Democrat priorities were dangerous for families and wildly out of touch with the majority of Americans.

“Now, the people’s house has the chance to live up to its name. Instead of punishing parents, lawmakers should protect them. Rather than forcing irreversible body changes on children, they can focus on protecting the women and children victimized by radical gender ideology. And in a world after Roe v. Wade, lawmakers have an opportunity to go full steam ahead to support mothers and their babies, rather than wasting time and resources to legally take the lives of the youngest Americans.

“The new House, and every leader, should learn from Governor DeSantis’s bold leadership and decisive win. American families are eager to support a leader who will not shy away from the hard issues, provide real solutions, and stand for parents and their children.”

DeRoche also responded to the losses on the ballot for the life issue:

“Before voting even started in the midterms, most states had already decided to be strongly pro-life or strongly pro-abortion. While the ballot measure results were disappointing, they were not surprising or indicative of the state of the country on life. The bigger concern is that even after 50 years of extreme policies under Roe v. Wade, one of the two major political parties still believes  it’s morally correct to trade lives for votes in this country. Overall, life is winning in America, and we will continue to compete with the abortion industry for every precious life until abortion is unthinkable.”
