Do you want your federal tax dollars to used promote abortion and to provide new grants to Planned Parenthood?

That’s what the U.S. House is considering this week, and we are urging all Americans who care about life to make your voice heard in Congress.

These pro-abortion maneuvers are part of a major appropriations bill that funds several departments, including Defense, Commerce, Education and Health & Human Services. It follows on the heels of another funding measure last week that weakened pro-life protections against abortion funding overseas. Despite all Republicans plus seven Democrats voting “no”, the Pelosi House passed that bill, sending it on to the Senate.

This week’s bill, H.R. 7617, goes even further:

It’s clear that the Democrat-controlled House is committed to undermining pro-life policies at every turn.  They have used the appropriations process to gut pro-life rules and roll back life-affirming executive orders.  While Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) clearly has a tight grip on the Democrat caucus, all Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents about the importance of protecting life in legislation.  It is true that the life issue is a mostly partisan one today, but it need not be that way forever.

As Rep. Chris Smith, chairman of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, said during debate last week, “Someday, future generations of Americans will look back on us and wonder how and why a society that prided itself on its commitment to human rights precluded virtually all protection to the weakest and most vulnerable – unborn children.”

If you believe life should be protected in law by all lawmakers, will you contact your representative and ask him or her to vote against H.R. 7617 because of the many anti-life provisions it contains? It only takes a few moments on our Action Center.

Thanks for speaking up and spreading the word!

In 2020, it’s easy to look around and wonder—is there anything good happening??

I’m thankful that the answer is YES, and you have been a part of making these good things happen!

Let me count some of the things we are grateful for at Family Policy Alliance, and I hope you will join us in praising God for this good news! And remember, these wins came about despite COVID-19 and all the challenges it brought right in the middle of when state legislatures were supposed to be busiest.

  1. First, do no harm.

When we elect lawmakers to represent us and our values, the first thing we hope and expect of them is that when they get to our capitols, they first “do no harm.” In other words, please don’t mess things up.We know that politicians can often mess things up, but this year many states were able to block a lot of bills that would deeply harm the lives of children and families—in large part because believers and pro-family voices joined together to push back against these bad bills. For example, New Mexico was poised to pass a bill proposed by their governor and pro-abortion legislators that would codify abortion up to the moment of birth in state law. Believers of all denominations joined together in opposition. The bill’s defeat is widely celebrated as the greatest victory for New Mexico’s pro-life movement in modern history.

In Georgia, the casino lobby spent major resources to lobby for unprecedented gambling expansion the Peach State, yet pro-family conservatives rallied enough opposition that the bill was pulled at the last minute.

And, in Colorado where far Left activists have been having a field day with passing laws that are increasingly harmful to families, the state was set to pass the latest bill that would redefine what it means to be a “parent.” The bill would have, among other consequences, divorced child birth from parentage making the family entirely a creature of state contract law and encouraged the use of Artificial Reproduction Technology – in which many extra embryos are created and, in most cases, eventually killed – thus adding to the loss of babies in our state. A coalition of conservatives and believers rallied, and the bill was stopped.

  2. Saving girls’ sports!

As you probably know, girls’ athletics are under attack by activists who would sacrifice girls’ athletic opportunities on the altar of a political agenda so that boys (who identify themselves as girls) can compete in girls’ divisions and steal girls’ scholarships. The state of Idaho had enough, and they became the first state in the country to pass a law protecting girls’ sports!Way to go Idaho! Their new law is under attack in court by the ACLU, so much work remains to be done to save that law so that other states can follow Idaho’s lead. Join the fight to Save Girls’ Sports if you haven’t already! The other good news on the girls’ sports front is that the Trump Administration has repeatedly clarified that to permit boys to steal girls’ athletic opportunities would be a violation of Title IX, the civil rights law that ensures girls equal access to academic and athletic opportunities with boys. And, the Trump Administration has also sided with Idaho in protecting its new law!
  3. Stopping Planned Parenthood & Nancy Pelosi, saving livesAs the COVID situation began to unfold, Nancy Pelosi’s COVID relief plan included a billion-dollar funding stream with a provision that would have excluded the Hyde Amendment — which has protected against taxpayer funding of abortions for decades. Thanks to tens of thousands of you raising your voice and to the White House, her plan was stopped. Then, while Planned Parenthood was seeking out masks and gloves in the thick of the crisis, they (and the broader abortion lobby) attempted to skirt regulations meant to protect women on the chemical abortion pill. With your support, Family Policy Alliance rallied a coalition of national and state-based allies to stop the effort in its tracks. Now that battle will continue to be fought in courts.

Laws to save lives were also being advanced! In the midst of COVID, Family Policy Alliance of Wyoming helped shepherd a bill to protect babies who survive botched abortions. The bill passed all the way through the Wyoming legislature, even though Wyoming’s governor ultimately vetoed it. This fight isn’t over!

  4. Education freedom for families

In America, our legal system is built upon recognizing certain God-given freedoms—including the right of parents to direct their children’s care and education. But sometimes, financial limitations prevent parents from being able to fully realize that right.Thankfully, in the midst of the COVID crisis, two major things happened to advance education freedom for families. First, President Trump’s Administration issued a rule to ensure that COVID relief funding would serve all students—those in public and private schools.Second, the Supreme Court struck down what’s called a “Blaine Amendment,” an antiquated law that has been used to prevent faith-based schools from being part of a school choice programs simply because they are faith-based. The ruling was a win for parents, for religious freedom, and most importantly—for children. We believe that children win when their parents can choose the best education for each child, and that no government should place limitations on a child’s future because of her zip code or her family’s income.

We hope this list of wins to be thankful for encourages you as it does us—and these were only a small sample of the good things happening across the country this year! Your voice makes a difference. Your vote can change lives. Your support is invaluable.

And certainly the fight isn’t over. Because of COVID, many state legislatures were cut short. This means that many, many good policies that protect lives and families were also not able to advance.

That’s why Family Policy Alliance is already gearing up for both the 2020 election and for January 2021 when most state legislatures get back to work. The 2020 election is critical to ensure that we have the right lawmakers representing us and our values in every state—so that we can advance those good, pro-family policies in 2021.

As you can see, the policies that are passed by good lawmakers can truly save lives and create a better country for our children.

No one’s claiming that any politician or law can be our country’s savior—only Jesus Christ can fill that role, and it’s clear today that we all need His saving grace. But we do claim that God has placed each of us in this country at this time to represent His truth in our system of government.

That is our calling and that is our unique form of ministry at Family Policy Alliance.

As we prepare for November 2020 and the life-saving policies we seek to pass into law in 2021, will you consider a gift to Family Policy Alliance?

For truth & for His calling,

Autumn Leva
Vice President, Strategy

On Friday, the House of Representatives will vote on what would be the most expensive bill to ever pass the House, H.R. 6800.  Speaker Pelosi’s “Heroes Act” is marketed as a necessary response to COVID-19,  but conservatives – who refer to the bill as “Pelosi’s Social Wish List Act” – insist it has nothing to do with responsibly responding to the Coronavirus, but instead, propping up her liberal base.  With a price tag of $3 trillion, there are line items for hundreds of causes and special interests, but a couple got our attention in particular.

First, the bill excludes Hyde Amendment protections for furloughed employees’ COBRA insurance premiums.  That means there are no protections to ensure federal funds are not used to subsidize abortions.

Second, the “Heroes Act” provides federal banking privileges to marijuana businesses.  The bill would grant “safe harbor” to Big Marijuana for banking and investments despite the fact that it’s an illegal drug in America.

The bill includes several other non-germane, controversial items, including a mandate to collect “hate crimes” data, a “blanket release” for certain federal prisoners, an expansion of Obamacare through a “special enrollment period,” and several provisions to federalize elections.

Fiscal conservatives have a long list of concerns with the bill, chief among them the continuation of $600 unemployment insurance supplements through Jan. 31, 2021 at the earliest.  The bill would also make illegal immigrants eligible for direct stimulus payments and permanently disallow SNAP rulemaking pertaining to work requirements and eligibility.

It is not an overstatement to say the bill contains a laundry list of liberal policies.  Unfortunately, even in a time of national crisis, liberal forces are still very much at work to erode our freedoms and compromise our values.

The “Heroes Act” highlights the importance of legislative leadership.  While the House, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), is poised to pass the bill on Friday, it is thankfully not expected to receive a vote in the Senate led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).  However, concern exists that the bill will be used as a bargaining chip to get the Senate to vote on and pass something similar in the future.  For that reason and the poor merits of the bill, it is important that we let our voices be heard in Congress today!

Please send a message to your Member of Congress and ask that he or she vote NO on H.R. 6800.

Thanks for making your voice heard!

Dear Friends:

Just a week ago, we were celebrating some major wins in the Wyoming legislature where we were able to protect babies born alive and make sure that our tax dollars would not be used to fund abortions. Since then, the conversation has changed most dramatically. With constant talk of COVID-19 spreading across the planet, we have seen the extremes of human behavior in ways that boggle the mind. It is interesting what matters.

I find it fascinating what some people hold dear. The “Toilet Paper Crisis of 2020” will go down in the history books as one of the strangest cases of misplaced priorities in consumer history and sociologists will be studying it for years to come.

One of the more horrifying misplaced priorities is that of Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, trying to push her radical abortion agenda into an emergency funding bill aimed at helping citizens cope with health issues and unemployment insurance. Speaker Pelosi tried to amend the COVID-19 related legislation to remove the Hyde Amendment, which for decades has ensured that our tax money would not go to the killing of babies in the womb.

Thankfully, pro-life Congressional Leadership, like our own Liz Cheney, spotted this effort and worked hard to remove it from the bill. The exploitation of fear in this way is one of the most disturbing episodes in the sad history of those who believe that society has the right to kill its most vulnerable citizens.

Yet, Speaker Pelosi has continued her efforts and introduced a different bill that would accomplish her reprehensible objectives.

Even in the midst of this crisis, I am asking you to contact our Congressional delegation and encourage them to oppose any effort to allow taxpayer funding of abortions through the Speaker Pelosi’s exploitation of the COVID-19 crisis.

I thank you, our ministry partners, for engaging when asked to help. This means financially, through prayer, and through Action Alerts. This is your chance to engage through the latter. You can send this important message to our congressmen in seconds, through our Action Center.

All three of our members of Congress have been strong pro-life advocates in DC, ever since they were elected, for which we are extremely thankful. Let’s make sure they know this life vote also really matters to Wyomingites!

Sincerely,

Nathan Winters
Executive Director

I find it gratifying to see how Americans, and more specifically North Dakotans, are banding together to deal with the current coronavirus pandemic. It’s truly encouraging to see neighbors helping neighbors, individuals and communities working to protect the elderly and others in high risk groups, and governmental agencies putting aside differences to work together to address this pressing issue. However, not everyone is onboard. In fact, one person is exploiting this situation for her own benefit and fundamentally sacrificing some American lives for the sake of others. That person is Representative Nancy Pelosi.

Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was using the coronavirus crisis to seek funding to take more lives through abortions. Pelosi’s coronavirus plan included a billion-dollar funding stream with a provision that would have excluded the Hyde Amendment, which has protected against taxpayer funding of abortions for decades. It would have meant that your and my tax dollars would fund the killing of innocent preborn infants.

The good news is that White House negotiators discovered the provision, and along with pro-life House leaders, successfully fought to remove it from the bill late Thursday. The bad news is that Speaker Pelosi is now pushing a separate bill that will do the same thing.

While Representative Pelosi disagrees with nearly every biblical value you and I hold dear, I find this particular action of hers to be truly contemptible. She is capitalizing on Americans’ fears by trying to sneak through a radical measure to exclude longstanding pro-life protections. But perhaps most importantly, she is willing to end the lives of some Americans by trading them for others. She is playing God.

Her new bill could come before the U.S. House of Representatives soon, and your voice to Congress is needed! Please contact our members of Congress, Representative Armstrong and Senators Hoeven and Cramer, to urge them to oppose any effort to allow taxpayer funding of abortions through Speaker Pelosi’s exploitation of this pandemic situation.

I regularly thank you, our ministry partners, for engaging when asked to help.

Let’s make sure they know this life vote also really matters to North Dakotans!

Sincerely,

Mark Jorritsma
President and Executive Director

Yesterday, government leaders at every level were taking unprecedented action to protect American lives from the coronavirus. At the same time, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was using the crisis to seek funding to take more lives through abortions.

You read that correctly – trading lives for lives!

Pelosi’s coronavirus plan included a billion-dollar funding stream with a provision that would have excluded the Hyde Amendment — which has protected against taxpayer funding of abortions for decades.

The good news is that White House negotiators discovered the provision, and they, along with pro-life

House leaders, fought successfully to remove it from the bill late Thursday.

The bad news is that Speaker Pelosi is now pushing a separate bill that will do the same thing. That bill could come before the U.S. House of Representatives soon. Your voice to Congress is needed!

Pelosi’s gambit is outrageous for lots of reasons:

But now this battle has shifted. Instead of a sneak attack, it’s out in the open.

Please contact your member of Congress and urge him or her to oppose any effort to allow taxpayer funding of abortions. Even if you’re not sure who your member is, you can send a message in 30 seconds on our Action Center.

Thank you for making your voice heard for life!

The Family Policy Alliance Team

As expected, by a vote of 236 to 173, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed HR 5, Nancy Pelosi’s so-called Equality Act. The bill, if enacted, will decimate religious freedom, conscience rights, women’s rights, parental rights and education policy all across the nation.

We have been updating you on the dangerous effects of this legislation for some time now. While the fight over HR 5 heads to the U.S. Senate, we will continue to keep you abreast of new developments. To that end, we have already set up a page where you can urge your two U.S. senators to oppose HR 5.

In a good development yesterday, the Trump administration announced that it was opposed to HR 5, noting its troubling provisions related to conscience rights and parental rights. However, the fight in the Senate remains critical, as it’s very important to minimize the number of Republican senators who declare their support for the bill. In the House vote today, only eight Republicans voted for HR 5, while 173 voted against it.

Many reading this email took action to let their member of Congress know that they wanted them to oppose HR 5.

How did your member vote? You can find out here.  (If you are unsure who your representative is, you can find their name and contact information in our Action Center by entering your zip code and/or address.)

If your member of Congress voted against HR 5, please let them know that you appreciate their stand for religious freedom, parental rights and conscience protections.

The United States House voted on Friday, 236-to-173, to advance the “Equality Act” which, if passed by the Senate and signed by the President, places “gay rights” in direct conflict with religious liberty. In fact, it actually elevates gay rights above religious rights. But then again, perhaps this was the goal all along.

In a widespread 2014 interview, then-Equal Employment Opportunity Commissioner Chai Feldblum was asked if she could conceive of a legal matter in which religious liberty rights would trump gay rights. She answered: “I’m having a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win.”

Feldblum is openly lesbian. To her credit, she made no attempt to hide her agenda. And while progressives try to sugarcoat their poison pill in sweet expressions of “Equality,” Christians should take notice that it is anything but equality for those who express a Christian faith. The provisions of this legislation open the door to:

While the Senate is unlikely to give a hearing to the so-called Equality Act, that’s not the end of the story. First, the House, under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, is likely  to tack it onto other legislation, potentially forcing big votes in the Senate.

And even with the threat of a Presidential veto, this is an all-too-familiar strategy of the Left—promote corrosive legislation in one session and get as many legislators as they can on record supporting it. Then actively press the issue forevermore in the court of public opinion to wear down people’s natural concerns and values. And finally, ensure the radical legislation passes in the most progressive states to lay the groundwork for passage in other states and eventually Congress.

To their shame, Nancy Pelosi’s House voted to subvert religious liberty to gay rights even though the former is fundamentally protected in our First Amendment. Strikingly, at the same time and for the 44th time, Pelosi prevented the House from voting on legislation to protect a child who survives an abortion. Instead, Pelosi’s policy allows that child to perish by withholding medical assistance. Where’s the equality for children born alive?

If that doesn’t awaken the church, what will?

Family Policy Alliance exists to be the voice for people of faith—in the church, the Christian business community and in legislatures across the nation and in D.C. We amplify your voice to stand firm and take action. But we can only stand for you when you stand with us!

Won’t you give today to have your voice—and those of your children—amplified today and heard tomorrow?

Standing for the Family,

Paul Weber
President and CEO

P.S. If you haven’t yet had the chance to urge your two U.S. Senators to OPPOSE the so-called Equality Act, please do so today! It only takes one minute on our instant Action Center.

Nancy Pelosi is not your child’s mom, but she’s certainly trying to be.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, it is important to honor mothers and grandmothers—and the irreplaceable, God-given roles they have in children’s lives.

Mother’s Day is also a powerful reminder that children are given to their mothers by God to be intimately known and lovingly protected. That’s why Family Policy Alliance® believes that parental rights are also God-given, intrinsically known, and should be protected—not taken away—by our government.

Yet, Nancy Pelosi has made a bill that is one of the worst violations of parental rights we’ve seen one of her top-five priorities this year. By advancing H.R. 5, the so-called Equality Act that promotes a radical LGBT agenda, Pelosi is choosing to please powerful special interest groups over honoring mothers and fathers.

We’ve shared with you about how Pelosi’s Equality Act would impact schools, businesses, churches and ministries, and healthcare.

We’ve shared with you how Pelosi’s Equality Act will work its way into your child’s curriculum—with no option to opt-out your child.

And, we’ve shared with you about how Pelosi’s Equality Act will harm your parental rights—including even the risk of losing custody if you don’t sign off on your child’s “gender transition.”

Yet, Pelosi is pushing her Equality Act forward for a final vote in the full U.S. House next week. That’s why we need your help.

This Mother’s Day, we honor, celebrate, and thank God for all mothers. But, we’re also asking every mom and grandma to join with us in opposing Nancy Pelosi’s Equality Act because it is a direct attack on God-given parental rights.

Here are 3 ways you can help RIGHT NOW:

  1. If you haven’t yet, send an automatic letter to your member of Congress asking him/her to vote NO on Nancy Pelosi’s Equality Act. It only takes 1 minute through our action center, and it doesn’t matter who your member of Congress is. EVERY member needs to know that moms are not behind this bill!
  2. Join us in using the power of social media to show Nancy Pelosi and the U.S. House that moms do NOT support the Equality Act! Share your short letter to Nancy Pelosi and use the hashtags: #MomsKnowBest and #EqualityAct.Here’s a great example from a mom we know, our very own attorney and policy manager, Stephanie Curry!

If you also tag Family Policy Alliance on your Facebook or Twitter post, we’ll share some of the best mom pics!

  3. Share this article with other moms and grandmas you know and invite them to take action too!

Because YOU, not Nancy Pelosi, know best how to raise your kids,

Autumn Leva,
Vice President of Strategy

With Nancy Pelosi’s dangerous Equality Act facing a vote on Thursday in the U.S. House, it has become even clearer that this is a clash between D.C. lobbying powerhouses and grassroots America.

Two major factions are pushing the Equality Act: the LGBT lobby and big business.

The LGBT lobby, led by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), has been ratcheting up pressure from the Left. But they are joined by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has been pushing Republicans to support the bill, despite the fact that it imperils religious freedom, parental rights and more.

The Chamber has even threatened to “score” this vote – meaning that each representative’s vote would be factored into the Chamber’s rating of how pro-business that member is.

But while this strange-bedfellow coalition works the D.C. swamp, grassroots America is heating up in strong opposition to the bill. Congressional offices report that this bill is generating the most constituent opposition to a bill that they have seen in a long time.

Family Policy Alliance® supporters like you have played a significant part in that growing grassroots opposition. And you still have a chance to make your voice heard!

You can send an email in just moments on our Action Center. Then you’ll receive a follow-up email with your representative’s name and number so you can easily make a quick call, asking them to vote NO on the so-called Equality Act.

Thanks for speaking up!
