BREAKING: DeSantis Signs Parental Rights in Education Bill

While strongly supported by even Democratic primary voters in Florida, the new pro-family law has sparked outrage from LGBT activists and internal controversy for the Walt Disney Company

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed the Parental Rights in Education bill into law. The new law ensures parents are not kept in the dark about what is happening with their children in schools and protects kids in kindergarten through 3rd grade from sexualized classroom instruction.

Polling indicates the law is strongly supported by Floridians—including by Democrat primary voters.

The law sparked criticism from LGBT activists and Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek, who pressured Governor DeSantis to veto the bill. Disney has also publicly insinuated that it wishes to “take action” against other states with pro-family laws. In response, Family Policy Alliance and Florida Family Policy Council have launched an open letter to Disney, calling for the media giant to reverse course. The public is invited to sign the letter.

Autumn Leva, Vice President for Strategy at Family Policy Alliance, stated:

“The Sunshine State got even brighter for Florida families today, thanks to Governor DeSantis’s bold leadership that puts parents and their children before politics. From Democratic parents to Republican parents and all those in between, they support the new law because parents act in their children’s best interest.

“As a company that caters to families, Disney clearly picked the wrong side in this fight. We hope they’ll reconsider advocating for sexualized content in kindergarten classrooms.

“We applaud our friends at Florida Family Policy Council for their tireless work shepherding this bill through the Florida legislature and thank Governor DeSantis for making it law. We hope his leadership encourages many more states to take similar actions to protect parents and their children.”

The bill was shepherded through the Florida legislature by Florida Family Policy Council, Florida’s premier family policy organization and a trusted voice for parents and families.

John Stemberger, President and General Counsel of Florida Family Policy Council, stated:

“We commend Governor DeSantis for standing up for parental rights and for pushing back on the false narratives being perpetuated by the media. He rightfully called out journalists who clearly hadn’t read the parental rights bill. His scathing critique of Disney—who has completely caved to the radical LGBT mob—put the woke company in its place. The Florida parents rights law is necessary because schools have become places more concerned with indoctrination than they are with education. Don’t say this is a ‘don’t say gay’ bill. It is a ‘don’t turn my third-grade son into a daughter’ bill. Little elementary school kids do not need to be introduced to transgenderism and other radical views of human sexuality that parents find harmful and are not in their children’s best interest.”
