Family Policy Alliance Responds to HHS Guidance

New guidance seeks to undermine child safety laws that protect kids from harmful transgender interventions

On Wednesday, the Office of Civil Rights for the Department of Health and Human Services released guidance targeting jurisdictions that legally protect minors from transgender interventions. The guidance encourages federal complaints from parents and health care providers who are barred from seeking or providing transgender interventions for children.

Meridian Baldacci, spokesperson for Family Policy Alliance, released the following statement:

“When a child is hurting so much that she feels she must radically alter her body in order to accept it, she should receive real help. Instead, President Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services wants kids to have access to hormones and surgeries that can cause irreversible harm, including sterilization. Arkansas’ SAFE Act remains the gold standard for protecting kids from such consequential and harmful interventions before they reach maturity, while leaving open avenues for real help to address underlying concerns. We hope many more states will follow Arkansas’s lead and pass laws to protect their own states’ children.”
